We’ve all been there, early mornings jolted awake by the alarm, instantly pushed and pulled by all the roles we’re supposed to play. Mama, entrepreneur, best friend, wife, sister, daughter, girlfriend, #boss, single parent; all of the above. The list goes on and on. Whether you have the luxury of a couple precious moments of peace and quite with a cup of coffee or not, the tasks of the day always come crashing in.
I’m one of those weird people who loves mornings. There are few things I like more than a peaceful morning on my porch. It’s my time to relax and talk with God. I try to do this as much as I can because I know I won’t always have this freedom, mornings all to myself.
Maybe you’re not a big coffee drinker or don’t have a porch to sprawl out on. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Here are 5 ways to start your morning and help keep your sanity. Get it girl.
SLEEP WITH YOU BLINDS OPEN
When I was doing research for this piece, I read that you should “be the sunshine in your sunrise” and it made me physically nauseous so I’ll try not to get too cheesy on you here.
I’ve recently started sleeping with my blinds halfway open. I have two huge windows in my room that let a lot of light in and it makes a big difference, especially if it’s a beautifully sunny morning. I also sleep with my window open; the cool fresh air and smell of wet grass is amazing in the morning. The bright sun streaming in makes it a little easier to roll out of bed and I don’t really get the creepy neighbor vibe from the people across the street so I’m going to stick to this tactic for now.
I love! love! love! when I start my day with God and His word. I honestly have the best day when I take the time to reconnect with Him. I don’t know why I don’t do it every morning. It’s like that V8 commercial when they skip out on their veggies and someone hits them on the forehead because that’s just stupid.
You coulda had a V8, they say. When I don’t take time to connect with Him, it’s a lot like that, you coulda had a great day, [thud].
Jesus Calling brought to light some things that I didn’t even realize about myself, like the pride I take in being self-reliant when really, I should be giving all the glory to God. This devotional reminded me that without Him, I’d be nothing but I’ll save the details of that for another SWS post. EAT UP + EXERCISE
If you didn’t see this one coming you might want to crawl out from under that rock real quick and take note. I feel like a broken record or that annoying song by Florida Georgia Line that plays every seven minutes but it’s true. Spending a little time in the morning to get a balanced meal and a workout in will make a world of difference. It doesn’t have to be anything extreme, just move. I’d be lying if I told you I’ve never done squats while curling my hair. Hashtag styled.
THE RIGHT PLAYLIST
I have music playing constantly, from the moment I wake up to the second my head hits the pillow there’s a tune in my head. Lately I’ve really been digging the Jamie Grace Pandora stationon my way to work. Maybe I’m easily entertained but the right music can put me in the best mood and that station makes me feel like I could take over the world and date Hugh Jackman all at the same time.Francesca Battistelli Pandora station is pretty money too.
Have a reward waiting for you in the morning that will make crawling out of bed a little more enjoyable. Swing by Starbucks for a freshly baked croissant or make your bathroom into a steam room and give yourself an extra ten minutes to relax. Don’t think you have any time to spare? Pick your outfit and pack your lunch the night before, and there you go, enjoy those few extra minutes to do something for YOU.
